This is our tribute to Fred.
Fred Wedlock by Alan Jacobs
It was with great sadness that l learned Fred Wedlock had passed away on March 4th at the age of 67.
Fred gave his time freely last year to open the first Oldland Music Festival. From the moment he arrived on site, there were smiles on everyone's faces. Many of us were nervous about the event and how successful it might be. The weather was not good and the crowds were not pouring in through the gates. Fred said we should not worry and that the people would come.
Before he went on stage, Fred was happy to pose for me and others who wished to take his photograph. He had no pretensions and demanded no "star" attention.
Fred went on stage and delivered his act with his usual style and wit. It was encouraging for all of us involved in the festival. He didn't disappear after his act, but stayed and gave his support to those following him on stage.
I had never met Fred before, but, on July 18th, 2009, in a damp field on a cloudy day, I met a man who was kind, generous and supportive, He made a big difference that day, and he was right................... the people did come.
Thanks Fred,
